Shaivyya is a Jaipur-based textile designer whose work grows from a constant engagement with Indian craft. It is an ever-evolving conversation filled with whimsy, love, and a deep curiosity for the visual vernacular of Jaipur’s opulent bazaars. Trained in fashion design, her creative vision was shaped by early immersion into the city’s vibrant cultural landscape: historic architecture, intricate crafts, and richly saturated colours that continue to animate her aesthetic today. A formative apprenticeship at the atelier of renowned block printer Brigitte Singh introduced her to the heritage and discipline of hand block printing, laying the foundation for her refined yet exploratory approach.

At the heart of Shaivyya’s practice lies a reverence for craftsmanship and an enduring devotion to colour. She works primarily with traditional hand block printing techniques, often using upcycled wooden blocks layered with the memory and patina of generations. Every textile is locally sourced and crafted entirely by hand in small batches. Her process is slow, sensory, and meditative- an ode to the artisanal labour of love intrinsic to the craft.

Her designs draw inspiration from the poetry of historical Indian architecture, reimagined in vivid Technicolor hues that echo Jaipur’s lively bazaar culture. In Rajasthan, colour is more than aesthetic; it is longing, defiance, imagination. Colour is a brilliant escape from the desert’s sepia quietude. Colour becomes a portal into a life lived in full technicolor, a way to break away from the humdrum and mundane. This philosophy infuses every textile she creates, inviting the wearer to embrace pieces meant to be lived in joyfully, expressively, and intimately.

Shaivyya Jaipur celebrates this cultural exuberance through hand block printing, reviving the visual language of the bazaar: abundant, playful, ornate, and full of character. Her signature style, “New Kitsch,” sits at the intersection of tradition and modernity, where old-world motifs intertwine with bold graphic elements and unexpected visual rhythms. Inspirations range from local architecture to Op Art to the flamboyant charm of kitsch. Each design begins with a desire to mingle contrasting values, holding them together within the boundaries of a single square of cloth.

Working closely with master craftsmen in her Jaipur studio, Shaivyya embraces the beauty of ambiguity inherent to hand block printing—the subtle shifts in pressure, the overlays of misaligned motifs, and the serendipitous “imperfections” that reveal the hand of the maker. In an age accustomed to mechanical precision, she seeks to free block printing from the constraints of flawless execution and reframe it not simply as surface design, but as an expressive, intuitive art form.

Through deliberate experimentation by modulating dye consistency, shifting block direction, altering spacing, layering motifs, resisting cloth, merging traditional and modern geometries, each textile becomes a meditation on possibility. Some pieces take over 36 hours to complete, pored over inch by inch. Imperfections are not flaws but conscious interventions, preserving the rhythm of “the hand and the eye” working in tandem.

Shaivyya’s work is a continuous act of unlearning and relearning, honouring the past while creating textiles that are personal, joyous, and refreshingly modern. Her pieces are designed to accompany daily life, meant to be touched, worn and lived in. They carry the emotional intensity of colour, the depth of heritage, and the spirited exuberance of Jaipur.

Shaivyya Jaipur is a celebration of the craft and the craftsmen- designed for the ones who seek joy, a sense of belonging, and a life lived in full Technicolor through the beauty of handmade textiles.
